Our technologies: Django Python & .NET Core (Part II)

After exploring Python in our previous blog post with Orsi, our Python team lead, we now shift our focus to .NET and sit down with Ioan, our .NET team lead to discover the values this technology brings to our product development. Let's embark on this exciting journey together and find out more.

Q: What are the key strengths of using .NET?

Ioan: Microsoft's .NET has many key strengths, but I won't bore you with them (a simple search on Google will do the trick). Instead, let me share my favorite aspects: it is a robust framework for building high-performance, scalable applications (you know, for when your website skyrockets to overnight fame), and with its extensive collection of libraries and frameworks, it provides ready-to-use solutions for various tasks in no time. And let's not forget its strong integration with the impressive Azure cloud platform. This shouldn't come as a surprise, but more than 80% (or 95% if you're reading Microsoft's blog - but let's keep it real) of Fortune 500 companies use Azure for their cloud computing needs. It's like having a Swiss Army knife that self-improves over time.

Q: What motivated you to choose and master this technology?

Ioan: It wasn't necessarily my choice. Freshly graduated, I enrolled in an internship program, hoping to become a Java developer. I had some experience from university and was hoping to work with it after finishing the internship. (Un)fortunately, there was a greater need for .NET developers, so my manager proposed that I give it a try for a few weeks and see if I like it. And those few weeks have now turned into almost 9 great years - time flies when you're having fun. It wasn't necessarily love at first "byte," but oh boy, am I glad I took that bite!

Q: How do you believe .NET is particularly suitable for developing Jibe's products?

Ioan: Long story short, due to its versatility and because there's still room in Fortune 500 for Jibe as well. Jokes aside, .NET is a great choice when working in a fast-paced environment. Its strength lies in its ability to boost productivity with its powerful arsenal of tools or frameworks, delivering high-quality products and "empowering" people in a connected world.

Q: What are your aspirations for your future technical development in .NET?

Ioan: Working with .NET is like being in a parallel universe where coding is both efficient and enjoyable. The plan is to continue enjoying building great products while diving deeper into advanced architectural patterns, cloud computing, IoT, or AI. Just like any developer, I want to stay on cutting-edge technology, and .NET seems like a perfect fit for it.
